the other side of my brain
Baby girl ur fine,
The notion I can’t deny
Cute face, nice figure, almond shaped eyes
Type of girl most niggas fantasize
Me tho…
I gotta set all that beside
I’m more interested in
How you live your life
Do you consider others
Do you do your best
To do what’s right
See it aint all about what
Happens at night
But do you understand
My temptation to know
That what happens at night
Happens right
Do you treat children
Like their everything
Are you prepared for a family
See there’s a whole lot of man in me
Will you compliment and balance me
Can we be best friends
Do you carry a lot of baggage
And have a whole lot of enemy’s
How do you handle your money
Do you know the value of hustle
Can you take care of family business
I don’t know it all
Can you teach me
See that tight dress,
Showing more of less
Hair done to impress
Stalettos with the red bottoms
Pouring Moët bottles
Taking pictures like models
In bathroom mirrors
Posting on twitter
For all ur followers….
All looks fun
And yes I thought about holla’n
But all that just makes the moment right
I’m talking bout something for the rest of our lives……
With the election of America’s first Black President it seems that people (mainly white) have thrown all political and social correctness that came along with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 out the window. Bigots, racist, or what ever moniker that can be attached to people who amass racist hate in their hearts are sending a message to all that do no look like them that they are not welcome in “Their America.” The recent blog post by New York Post writer Phil Mushnick, who ranted about Jay-z suggested that the Brooklyn Nets should be named the New York Niggers and their cheerleaders should be called bitches and hoes is just another example of the racial tone that many are trying to create in America. With the election of Barack Obama people anxious to get beyond racism decided to suggest that we are living in a post racial society, ignoring their own racist thoughts or their known racist kin folk who will say loud and proud that they do not like black people or niggers as they commonly refer to people of darker hue.
Mississippi became the most terrifying place in America during reconstruction and post reconstruction, leaving the state with a reputation and aura that can’t easily be shook. I remember when I first moved tot he state in 1999 many people from my home state of Illinois warned me of the racial conditions telling me to be careful, not to look at white girls, stay on the black side of the tracks, and to watch out white people will still hang you from a tree. Well I have lived here in the state fro approx 10 years and yes black men are found mysteriously hanging from trees, or strangely committing suicide by shooting themselves or other means that leave communities with unexplained circumstances that have evidence pointing back to possible hate crimes. And yes I’m still cautious of white girls. Mississippi however, is not the only place where things like this are happening. Just last month 2 racist went on a shooting spree shooting and killing any black people they seen in Oklahoma. The beautiful life of Trayvon Maritin was taken due to blatant racial profiling and vigilant justice, but this incident happened in Florida not Mississippi. The internet went crazy when pictures of a bumper sticker that say’s “Don’t Re-Nig” referring to President Obama circulated. In addition we have to acknowledge the many deaths at the hands of racist cops who kill unarmed black men in the name of justice and the countless other hate crimes that happen day to day on the job or in communities.
America is far from the post racial era, as a matter of fact from my viewpoint it’s getting worse. We have no more jim crow laws, due to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and because of the more recent hate crime laws it now punishable by law to be racist, but that has done little to deter racist from carrying out their missions. Racism must be addressed, but not by the usual suspects. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others cannot do all the demanding for the stop of racism, neither can the entire black population. The demand for the end of racism needs to come from the very communities where it is born and nurtured. White America needs to put on a full force campaign to end hate at all cost. Rural white communities need to stand up a proclaim that racism cannot exist there, and until they do racist will always have a home.
Phil Mushnick claims that he is not racist, and so does the gunmen in Oklahoma as well as Trayvon Martins killer, but we know racism when we see it, hear it, and feel it. It is beyond time out for this kind of behavior in America. Mississippians know well what racism is and we know that it isn’t only in this state. Wake Up.
